I recently participated in a swap of 5x7 format art organized by the lovely Tiffany. I think there were about 60 or 70 people involved and it was exciting thinking about all of us, all over the world, mailing out our little packages of love on the same day. The swap was set up such that you receive a piece from someone other than who you created for which I thought was a neat twist. I'm not breaking any ground or pushing any envelopes when I paint, I'm just playing, so for awhile I struggled with what to make because after reviewing the list of blogs posted on the 5x7 site, I could see that there were a lot of really friggin talented people signed up. Also, I knew my piece was going to Heather of The Bees Knees Vintage who seems impossibly cool so I am relieved that she seemed to like it.
On Monday, I received these extraordinary paper flowers from Sara Salem. Sadly, this picture does them no justice. My camera does a lot of things pretty well, but taking good close-ups doesn't seem to be one of them (or there's a huge possibility that it's operator error). Anyway, Sara must have a giant reservoir of patience to make such tiny, perfect little pieces. Each tiny frame even has mitred corners! It looks like there is a piece of paper, maybe vellum I'm not sure, attached on both the front and back of the frame. She's then scratched, poked and sewn the tiny designs on, in some cases on both sides to achieve different effects on the front. Really beautiful. Sara, if you're reading this, I think they are amazing. I couldn't be happier with them, thank you so much!!!
I really seem to need deadlines in order to get things finished, so the 5x7 art swap was a fabulous experience for me. I finally finished something and I got cool stuff too! I believe Tiffany is planning on another one, so you can join up if you think it sounds like fun!
